Welcome. For nearly 180 years Avon Congregational Church has stood on the corner of Albany Turnpike and Simsbury Road in Avon Center. For almost two centuries, our historic meeting house has served as a landmark at this busy crossroads. But more important than the architectural splendor of our building, our beautiful church, with its steeple reaching heavenward, has always symbolized the presence of God. Caring for the lonely and others needing cheer by bringing poinsettias and Easter lilies; caring for children in orphanages in Guatemala with gifts of clothing and books and love; caring for children in Hartford who need safe places to play; caring for the homeless and destitute through Americares work projects; caring for refugees who need a fresh start and warm welcome in a new country; caring for those in our congregation who are ill; caring for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one.

The Avon Congregational Church has a wonderful tradition of exemplifying the love and presence of God through the love and care we extend to others. It is a robust community of faith rooted in an atmosphere that is a unique combination of warmth, spirit, tradition and respect for diversity and individuality. At the same time, the church offers a contemporary view of the role of faith and Christianity in our daily lives.

The Meeting House, built in 1819, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The church is situated at the foot of Avon Mt. in the scenic Farmington Valley, 10 miles west of Hartford.
