Stone Soup Ministry
at Avon Congregational Church

The Stone Soup cooks meet once a month on Saturdays at 9 a.m. in the ACC kitchen to prepare a meal for Loaves and Fishes, a soup kitchen in Hartford that feeds 130 people daily. Upcoming dates are November 12, December 10, January 14, February 11, March 10, April 14, May 12 and June 16th.

Each month a new special dish will be prepared under the guidance of experienced cooks.  Sign-up sheets for ingredients and workers are posted on the bulletin board.  You can donate ingredients or your time or both.

We welcome walk-ins (at any time during the evening) and would love to see new faces. Come join us!

For the past 10 years we have been preparing a meal once/month for 150 for the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Hartford. Through this enjoyable effort, called “Stone Soup,” we have prepared 18,000 meals in 10 years for a dollar value of $144,000 (at $8/meal). Church members donate ingredients through their love and generosity, like the villagers in the story of Stone Soup. Food donations are supplemented with cash donations and CSO’s annual budget.

 How Can You Help?

  • Sign-up to donate food on the Stone Soup Ingredient list, posted monthly on the CSO bulletin board. Drop off food in the ACC kitchen.

  • If you want to help prepare the Stone Soup meal, or donate ingredients, please call the church office to confirm Stone Soup dates and times.

  • Donate money to support Stone Soup. The meat for each meal costs approx. $100.

  • Donate to Loaves and Fishes
