What We Believe

Avon Congregational Church is part of the United Church of Christ, a denomination with a rich history. Formed in 1957 from the merger of four earlier denominations, it is a “united and uniting church.” Committed to social justice and to sound theology, each local congregation is autonomous.  Although connected to a larger body, we are free of restrictive and limiting ties, thus able to govern ourselves as we see fit.

At the same time, we are keenly aware of the how we are bound together with all churches and with the world. Therefore everything we do is done with consideration of the welfare of the entire global community, and with a strong sense of our responsibility to care for all of God’s creation. Above all, we believe that God is still speaking, that God is doing a new thing in our midst, and that faith, hope, and love are ultimately that which is eternal.

Our Mission Statement

Our Mission is to enable people to know God and to live as Jesus Christ taught and lived.

Our faith energizes us to make a difference in our lives and the lives of those we touch in our social, business and personal activities.?

We are a family of Christian believers dedicated to sharing our love, time, talents and gifts with each other and the larger community.

We worship together in reverence and joy and welcome all to join us in our Christian fellowship.

We are committed to Christian education as a life-long endeavor for all.

We affirm that our commitment to our own church must be balanced with our social responsibility to all humanity.
