Avon Nursery School is committed to providing an exceptional preschool experience for young children between the ages of 3 and 5. Avon Nursery School is currently the only nationally-accredited, dedicated nursery school program in Avon, and one of three in the Farmington Valley.
We strive to enhance self-esteem by offering unique opportunities and choices for children. This allows them the freedom to explore, discover, practice and develop an active, lifelong love of learning in a safe and loving environment.
In carefully planning our curriculum, Avon Nursery School keeps in mind not only the State of Connecticut’s Frameworks for Preschool Education but also elements from The Creative Curriculum.
We help each child to develop his/her unique social, language and motor skills by participating in dramatic play, building activities, sensory and science experiments, music and movement, visual and fine art projects, reading and writing adventures and outdoor play. We encourage curiosity about our surroundings and foster an appreciation for nature and the world we live in.
In addition, Avon Nursery School intentionally plants and nurtures the seeds of peace and tolerance. We help children learn how to sustain friendships, develop empathy, and resolve conflicts. We do not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, sex, cultural heritage, political beliefs, national origin or disability.
Avon Nursery School offers four programs in a half-day class format:
- Morning 3-year-old Program: Tues. & Thurs. from 9 – 11:30 a.m.
- Morning 4-year-old Program: Mon., Wed. & Fri. from 9 – 11:30 a.m.

The mission of Avon Nursery School at Avon Congregational Church is to instill a passion for learning and a strong moral foundation in young children. Avon Nursery School offers the highest quality early childhood education for 3 to 5 year olds. This is accomplished by actively following rigorous NAEYC standards, by using a challenging and creative hands-on / minds-on curriculum, and by providing a safe and loving place where peace, friendship, empathy and tolerance can be practiced.
