A very special event is planned for September 25th – a Leo Boswell Series worship service featuring Ross Tucker and the Hot Cat Jazz Band. The band will play up-tempo favorites of gospel and sacred songs. Our singers will perform “Dream” and “Goliath” accompanied by the players. This acclaimed band has played in churches all over Connecticut and is not to be missed! This Boswell Series event has been made possible by the generosity of Gay and Christopher Adams.
Quilts of Valor Display – A display of quilts made by our Sew Thankful Quilters will take place over the weekend at The Residence of Brookside on Simsbury Road (across from Healthtrax). A small reception is being held to honor veterans; it is open to the public on Sunday. Susan Elliott will be there at 1:00 p.m. to answer questions about Quilts of Valor and our group.
The Women's Circle, formerly Tuesday Crafters, resumes bi-weekly Tuesday meetings September 20th at 10 a.m. in Fellowship Hall, followed by noon BYO lunch. We bring our own arts or crafts projects to work on or just relax and enjoy the fellowship.
Rummage Sale Captains Meeting – Calling all captains from this year’s past sale and other interested volunteers to discuss plans for 2017. Please plan to meet on Tuesday, September 20th at 7 p.m. in the church library. Please RSVP to Beth Ferrari at BethFerrari@comcast.net.
Yahweh and Yoga – Yoga classes will begin again on Monday evening, September 26th. Meditation from 6:15 - 6:30; yoga from 6:30 – 7:30. Please join us for stretching and scripture. See Betsy Van Loon if you have any questions.
It’s Time for our Fall Newsletter! Articles should be submitted to Denise Beeney by next Sunday, September 25th for our Fall Parish Tidings. The next newsletter will come out for Thanksgiving/Advent, so articles should cover events happening through mid-November.
Would you like to help a 3rd grader be a successful reader? Please consider joining our tutoring team! We help students on a weekly basis at Gaffney School in New Britain during the school year. This year we will be tutoring on Friday mornings; meeting to carpool at 9 am and back by 11:30 am. We will be starting on Friday, September 23rd, but we are always looking to expand our group or add names to our substitute list. It’s very easy and a gratifying service. If interested, please contact Beth Ferrari at 860 675-8246.
Church School Needs Your Help – One extra church school helper is needed for the following dates: October 2nd, October 9th, October 23rd and October 30th. If you are available to help on any of these dates, please contact Jenny Egan or Pastor Donna.
First Friday Dinner - October 7, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Our popular dinners kick off with an autumn favorite, homemade, succulent meat loaf. This classic comfort food will be paired with oven roasted herbed potatoes, vegetables, beverages/dessert bar. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Heifer International “Gift Ark” project. Purchase tickets at the church office, Mon.-Thurs., 9 - 3, or at the door; $13/adult & $7/child 10 and under).
Sew-In on Saturday, October 29th at Sew Inspired Quilt Shop on Wilcox Street in Simsbury. The shop will be hosting a drop in sew-In for our group Sew Thankful Quilters/Quilts of Valor. They have offered their classroom for us to use. This event is open to the public for anyone at any level to come for a short time or all day and work on Quilts of Valor tops. There will be all sorts of jobs. Sew Thankful Quilters will be providing all the fabric, patterns, and guidance. We would love to have some church members come and support our ministry.
