BIG Meeting Breakfast Brunch

We are looking for a few people to prepare breakfast casseroles or quiches for our BIG Meeting on Sunday, October 30th.  A sign-up sheet is posted on the “BIG” bulletin board next to the office or contact Beth Ferrari or Jennie Boswell.  Thank you!

Yahweh and Yoga

Classes will be held on Monday October24th.  No class on Halloween.  Meet at 6:15 for meditation and 6:30 to 7:30 for class.

First Friday Dinner for November 4, 2016
5:30 pm. to 7:30 p.m.

The November First Friday dinner will feature another classic comfort food, chicken pot pie, served with salad, beverages and a dessert bar.  A portion of the dinner proceeds will go to the Heifer International “Gift Ark” project.  Tithing has already helped us raise over $1000 towards the purchase of pairs of goats, sheep, llamas and pigs.  Two more months are dedicated to this meaningful project.  A Gift Ark donation goes around the world, from Africa to Asia, Europe and the Americas to help end hunger, poverty and hopelessness by providing animals, training and encouragement.

Dinners are $13 (adult) and $7 (child 10 and under). Diners may purchase tickets at the church office, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., or at the door.  Dine in or take out.

The Gifts of Love food pantry shelves are bare!

Please bring in non-perishables such as peanut butter, pasta, rice, and vegetables. Cereal and hearty canned soup/chili are in highest demand. Stock up on grocery store specials and donate generously!  A food collection basket is in fellowship hall or drop it off directly to Gifts of Love.  Thank you!

Coffee Hour Hosts – Dates to host coffee hour for the 2016-2017 year are being scheduled now.   We would like to expand our volunteer list so that the work is spread around and no one gets overburdened.  Please consider signing up with your family or a friend to host a date or two this year.  Please see Astrid Tury or Beth Ferrari about hosting.

Become a Called to Care Lay Care Giver

Visitation Team is providing training to become a Called to Care lay Care Giver.  Called to Care is the UCC program designed to train and support church members who want to make short or long term visits to those in need care within our church family.  The training will be 12 to 16 hours. The group of trainees will decide if we do this over a series of week nights or dedicate one weekend to the program.  If you are interested please call or email Betsy Van Loon at 860-604-4046; ecvanloon@aol.com.  Betsy will not be in church often during October but is available to answer questions.  There will also be a packet of introductory materials available in the church office.

Word Processing Volunteer Needed - If you know how to use a word processor, you can add content to our websites. If you know how to upload and download pictures, you can do these things on our website. Volunteers are needed to do these things for our church website and at ACC(plugged-in) before November. Please contact the church office and let us know you are willing to do this, or contact Bob Burke directly – 860-264-5829 or by email – rbt.burke@gmail.com.

There is an AlterNATIVE Benefit Concert hosted by Simply Smiles will feature Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary; Lakota activity and artist Frank Waln; and folk artist & activist, Kristen Graves.  The concert will be held on Sunday, November 13th at 4 pm at the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University.  These three inspirational artists will use their music to raise support for the Lakota community that Simply Smiles supports on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.  It’s an evening you will not want to miss.  Tickets are available from Beth Ferrari in the church office or during coffee hour on Sunday.  Prices are $45 for upper level seats and $65 for lower level seats.  Checks are payable to Simply Smiles.  For more information, go to SimplySmiles.org.
