Church School Needs Your Help
One extra church school helper is needed for the following dates: October 9th and October 30th. Helpers will also be needed in November and December. If you are available to help on any of these dates or for November and December, please contact Jenny Egan, Pastor Donna or sign upon the hall bulletin board.
First Friday Dinner - October 7, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Our popular dinners kick off with an autumn favorite, homemade, succulent meat loaf. This classic comfort food will be paired with oven roasted herbed potatoes, vegetables, beverages/dessert bar. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Heifer International “Gift Ark” project. Purchase tickets at the church office, Mon.-Thurs., 9 - 3, or at the door; $13/adult & $7/child 10 and under).
1st Friday Dinner Volunteers are needed for the upcoming October 7th dinner. Desserts are needed too. A signup sheet is posted in the main hallway near the office.
Adult Mission Trip: Friday, October 14 @ 3 pm - Saturday, October 15 @ 5 in Rhode Island. We will be serving out of a Mobil Loaves and Fishes truck. Cost is $30 for the overnight at Irons Homestead in Glocester, R.I. Contact Sue Crowther (860-678-0713) or Beth Ferrari (860-675-8246) if interested.
Yahweh and Yoga
Classes will be held on the following Mondays in October: 10th, 17th and 24th. No class on Halloween. Meet at 6:15 for meditation and 6:30 to 7:30 for class.
Become a Called to Care Lay Care Giver
Visitation Team is providing training to become a Called to Care lay Care Giver. Called to Care is the UCC program designed to train and support church members who want to make short or long term visits to those in need care within our church family. The training will be 12 to 16 hours. The group of trainees will decide if we do this over a series of week nights or dedicate one weekend to the program. If you are interested please call or email Betsy Van Loon at 860-604-4046; firstname.lastname@example.org. Betsy will not be in church often during October but is available to answer questions. There will also be a packet of introductory materials available in the church office.
WACC Invites You to the “Last Picnic of the Year’ Senior Luncheon – Friday, October 14th, 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a burger and the fixin’s – coleslaw, chips, ice cream and fellowship. Program – Come meet “Beau the Bassador” and his person, Marilyn Douglas, and learn about therapy dogs and their training. Reserve your place by Monday, October 11th by contacting Jeannie Parker (860-673-9559) or the WACC church office (860-673-3996). All are welcome!

Sew Inspired Quilt Shop
Wilcox Street, Simsbury
The shop will host a sew-In in t heir classroom for our group Sew Thankful Quilters/Quilts of Valor. This event is open to the public for anyone at any level to come for a short time or all day and work on Quilts of Valor tops. There will be all sorts of jobs. Sew Thankful Quilters will be providing all the fabric, patterns, and guidance. We would love to have some church members come and support our ministry.
The 2017 Rummage Sale will be held March 31st - April 1st – Save the date! If you need to clear out some items now, Janet Carville is accepting donations at her home. Please make arrangements directly with Janet. She can be reached at 860-677-0115.
Word Processing Volunteer Needed - If you know how to use a word processor, you can add content to our websites. If you know how to upload and download pictures, you can do these things on our website. Volunteers are needed to do these things for our church website and at ACC(plugged-in) before November. Save the Date ~ Simply Smiles Benefit Concert!
On Sunday, November 13th, 4:00 p.m. a concert will take place at the Quick Center in Fairfield, CT to support the work of Simply Smiles. Performers include Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary – Peter is a friend of Simply Smiles and has been a social activist for over fifty years; Frank Waln – a Lakota Hip Hop artist and activist who was featured on MTV’s Rebel Music; and, Kristen Graves – a humanitarian who was called “the next generation of folk music” in the New York Times.
