Dianne Rechel, Director of Music Ministries

Let us introduce you to our new Director of Music Ministries, Dianne Rechel (pronounced Rayshell).  She lives nearby in West Hartford and has had a variety of experiences, mostly of an interim nature with piano and organ.  Dianne attended Hartt School of Music as a Piano Performance/Music History major.  At the time we were looking for a new director, three churches had approached her.  She evaluated all three and is excited to join our church where she likes the people and thinks we have a lot of potential. She is bubbling over with new ideas to share about how we might broaden the musical experience for all of us and invite the surrounding community to share it with our congregation.  She asked some interesting questions about what we had done in the past and feels she has a good support system of people with whom she has worked and felt some may follow her here.  Dianne wants to continue to grow and help develop the talent in the church.  Please help her feel welcome when she joins us November 16th.  Her first Sunday will be November 20th.

Norm Keeney & Peruse Khachoyan, Worship Ministry Co-leaders

First Friday Dinner for November 4, 2016
            5:30 pm. to 7:30 p.m.

The November First Friday dinner will feature chicken pot pie, served with salad, beverages and a dessert bar.  A portion of the dinner proceeds will go to the Heifer International “Gift Ark” project.  Tithing has already helped us raise over $1000 towards the purchase of pairs of goats, sheep, llamas and pigs.  A Gift Ark donation goes around the world, from Africa to Asia, Europe and the Americas to help end hunger, poverty and hopelessness by providing animals, training and encouragement.

1st Friday Dinner is this FRIDAY – We are still in need of about 6-8 desserts for the dinner as well as volunteers to help bus dishes and wash dishes.  If interested in helping out, please contact Beth Ferrari at BethFerrari@comcast.net   Thank you!

Stewardship Drive Continues

Our stewardship drive has begun!  You should have received a letter with a pledge card in the last week.  If you have not received the mailing and need a pledge card, forms are available in the church office.

Outreach Opportunities

Stone Soup - Calling all cooks for Stone Soup!  We will be making sausage soup and cornbread on Monday, November 14th at 6 pm in the church kitchen.  An ingredients list has been posted by the nursery.

Avon Social Services Thanksgiving Baskets - Outreach Ministries will be supporting two families registered with Avon Social Services for Thanksgiving baskets.  A sign-up sheet is posted in Fellowship Hall.  The final drop-off date is Sunday, November 20th

Ring-a Ling - Outreach Ministries will again be hosting a bell ringing day for Salvation Army at the Avon Walmart on Saturday, December 10th from 9 am-7 pm.  There are one hour slots available to cover this super easy job.  The funds raised help the Hartford Salvation Army and local town agencies.  Please consider giving up an hour of your day to help others.  A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board by the office.

Gifts of Love, First Sunday Collection – The Outreach Ministry is changing the way we collect food for the Gifts of Love food pantry.  Starting this coming Sunday, 11/6, non-perishable items will be collected in the sanctuary in the marked baskets on the first Sunday of each month.  Please note that Gifts of Love is currently in need of hearty soups, chili and breakfast cereals.  Thank you!

Simply Smiles Benefit Concert

There is an AlterNATIVE Benefit Concert hosted by Simply Smiles will feature Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary; Lakota activity and artist Frank Waln; and folk artist & activist, Kristen Graves.  The concert will be held on Sunday, November 13th at 4 pm at the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University.  These three inspirational artists will use their music to raise support for the Lakota community that Simply Smiles supports on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.  It’s an evening you will not want to miss.  Tickets are available from Beth Ferrari in the church office or during coffee hour on Sunday.  Prices are $45 for upper level seats and $65 for lower level seats.  Checks are payable to Simply Smiles.  For more information, go to SimplySmiles.org.
